Lo Celso left benched by Betis

Giovani Lo Celso travelled with the rest of the Real Betis squad to Morocco to take part in a pre-season friendly ahead of the new La Liga campaign.

The Argentine was named on the bench for the match against Raja Casablanca which the Spanish side won 1-0 courtesy of an 88th minute goal from Raul Garcia deHaro.

Betis made seven changes throughout the second half of the match, yet Lo Celso did not take to the field (Real Betis Twitter).

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Spurs for the majority of the summer (BBC) and it was reported last night that the North London club have agreed a €52million deal (Daily Record).

Opinion

It makes some sense for Lo Celso not to start the match considering he has only recently returned to the club following his extended break after featuring for Argentina in the Copa America.

However, to take him to Morocco and not play give him an opportunity to build any match fitness could be viewed as Betis protecting their investment against a potential injury considering the fact he could be on the verge of a big money transfer to Tottenham.
