Local media outlet suggests Spurs man has played way too many minutes this season

Plymouth Live have suggested following Plymouth Argyle’s defeat to Bristol City on Monday that too much has been asked of Ashley Phillips since his loan move from Tottenham in January.

The bosses at Spurs would be happy with the way Phillips’ loan move to Home Park Stadium has worked out, with the centre-back playing nearly every single game since his switch to the club.

The teenager has done an admirable job at the centre and the right of Plymouth’s back three but the Championship club have been in a horror run of late, having lost four of their last five league matches.

Their defeat away at Bristol saw them drop to 21st place, just a point above the drop zone, with manager Ian Foster losing his job, just three months after arriving at the club.

Ashley Phillips has been thrown in at the deep end

Plymouth Live have suggested that one of the reasons for Foster’s downfall was that he demanded too much from youngsters like Phillips, suggesting that the Tottenham centre-back had played too many matches.

The outlet said about the teenage defender: “The 18-year-old has given it his best since arriving on loan from Tottenham Hotspur as Ian Foster’s first signing in January. But it has asked a lot of someone of his age to play so many highly competitive matches in a relatively short period of time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Plymouth’s results have not been great over the last month and a half, Phillips will mature as a footballer as a result of going through this difficult experience, with the pressure being cranked up on the players with each bad result.
