‘Long way to go’ – Kane will not concede defeat to Haaland in Golden Boot race

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland may have taken the Premier League by storm, but Harry Kane has not given up on catching the young striker in this season’s Golden Boot race.

Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane has won the Premier League Golden Boot three times already. He won the award in the 2015/16 season with 25 goals, in the 2016/17 season with 29 goals, and again in the 2020/21 season with 23 goals.

Kane had to give up the award last season though, with the Golden Boot being shared between Spurs teammate Heung-min Son and Liverpool’s Mo Salah.

It’s been a strong start to the season this year for Kane, with eight goals in his first nine games (Transfermarkt). Those incredible numbers have gone relatively unnoticed though.

That’s because Erling Haaland has arrived in England, and is registering insane goalscoring stats already. The Norwegian has 15 league goals in his first nine games (Transfermarkt) and is now just eight goals away from matching last year’s winning total.

While many believe the Golden Boot race is already over for this campaign, Kane insisted there’s plenty of time left to catch Haaland in a recent interview with ViaPlay.

Kane said: “No [I haven’t given up catching him], look there’s a long way to go and a lot of games to play. I always concentrate on myself. I don’t think about too many other people.

“We’ve got some great players in the Premier League, fantastic strikers. For me, it’s just about doing what I can for my team.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Erling Haaland is a ridiculous goalscoring machine and he shows no signs of slowing down. Sadly, it’s looking increasingly likely that both he and Manchester City will end the season with honours to their name.

You should never bet against Harry Kane though. He’s had a brilliant start to the season, and if it wasn’t for Haaland’s early form, everyone would be raving over Kane’s numbers. If anyone can beat Haaland, it’s Kane!
