“Look, Darth Vader could come to Spurs. I don’t care”

William Gallas

Tottenham defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto has backed William Gallas’ decision to move to White Hart Lane.

With some fans unhappy that the former Arsenal and Chelsea centre-half is due to sign for us, Assou-Ekotto believes that Gallas has every right to move across north London.

He said: “Look, Darth Vader could come to Spurs. I don’t care.

“If he does his job well I am happy for Spurs.

“Gallas can help us. Even if he is from Arsenal. They haven’t taken the chance to keep him so he is a free agent. He can go wherever he wants.

“If he was under contract at Arsenal and then chose to go to Spurs then I would understand the supporters at our club not being very happy. But Arsenal don’t want him. So why not take him?”

Have something to tell us about this article?

    • “If he does his job well I am happy for Spurs."

He is only echoing what most people of a realistic point of view will be thinking themselves. Gallas is a player who hasn't finished outside of the Top 4 since his arrival in England, he has a winning(if sometimes out of control) mentality and Assou Ekotto recognises that. If he is able to contribute to us consolidating our 4th place position this season then it will be seen as a very good piece of business by Levy & Redknapp and we will not be bothered about his past employers. Lets stop being bothered about Arsenal and start thinking about winning trophies and building a squad that can challenge Man Utd and Chelsea – if we're going to take North London's bragging rights back permanently then those will become our real rivals.

    • Could just be because he's French ;)

But I didn't mind Gallas coming. We need a Centreback – Bottom line.

Mancini was being difficult in keeping Richards despite not even wanting him like he didn't want Bellamy.

  1. BAE gets a rough ride for being honest, but would you be loyal to a work place if a better offer came along?

He's a pretty decent player and is animated/passionate at times on the pitch. What more do you want?

He's spot on re: Gallas too.

  2. As long a player (who signs for Spurs) is good enough and has the right level of experience required for the level of football we could be about to be faced with, i.e. The Champions League groups stages, then I am all for the signing of Gallas. All these stupid, childish comments about him being an Arsenal player are getting a bit tiresome. At the end of day, Harry knows what is best, and we should back him with his signings.

  3. In this day and age where players contracts are not worth the paper they’re written on a player can pen a contract this year and be playing for a new club the next its admirable to see a player see out his contract. First I have to say its not what I would wish to have an ex gunner in our ranks but as Harry has said really what has the guy done and it is nowhere near the same thing that Judas did and we have had an ex Gooner manager in charge at Spurs so there you have it its just the way of the football world. I think he could go a long way to winning the fans over by scoring against the Arse at theirs.
