Some Tottenham and Southampton fans have been left unimpressed with Kyle Walker-Peters’ display on his debut for the Saints against Burnley on Saturday.
Walker-Peters completed a loan move to Southampton on transfer deadline day last month after failing to get much first-team football at Spurs this season.
The 22-year-old Spurs star is expected to get first-team opportunities on the South coast for the remainder of the campaign, which started yesterday.
He was thrown straight into the side for the clash against Burnley on Saturday but didn’t enjoy the best of starts at the St. Mary’s Stadium as the home side fell to a 2-1 defeat.
The Spurs loanee was replaced by Michael Obafemi in the 72nd minute as the home side went looking for a late equaliser, but failed to find it.
Some Spurs fans didn’t feel the young defender was up to the mark on his debut:
Kyle Walker peters has done some ok things and some poor things in this game, pretty much what you’d expect from him but think he’ll improve if they give him a run. Ings grows on me every week, good player, deserves an England call up

You know you can tell someone is going to be a player like Tanganga after very few games. Kyle Walker Peters in another example you can see he’s simply not that good

2 minutes in and Burnley score direct from a corner that is wind assisted. Corner was conceded by Kyle Walker Peters on his debut. Mistake was by Ings can only get better & McCarthy the goalie stood 3 foot behind his line. #SOUBUR

Walker peters needs to hit the gym. Looks like some of our other players in our squad. No strength.

Walker Peters looked suspect before he came off. Another one to bin in the summer

Walker-Peters departs with 17 minutes left to be replaced by Michael Obafemi. KWP with a solid debut. Some nice touches and one poor cross. 1-2.

Some Southampton fans, however, were a little kinder in their assessment of Walker-Peters and insisted that they were willing to be patient with him.
Kyle Walker-Peters had a sound debut, considering the tough conditions.

Thought that walker peters looked decent today to be fair. Shaky start but did well on the ball

vestergaard and djenepo were horseshit today. that was also armstrong's worst game for quite a while. walker-peters looked ok 1st half, but was poor 2nd half

Only first game but Walker-Peters was a bit ordinary & lightweight. #SaintsFC

Spurs Web Opinion
Given how little football Walker-Peters has played for the last couple of years, it isn’t surprising at all that he looked rusty. It is extremely unfair to judge him unless he has a few games under his belt and gets used to Southampton’s way of playing. Even if he isn’t good enough for us, I believe the 22-year-old has more than enough quality to become a regular for the Saints.
