‘Loses control’ – Tim Sherwood blasts Yves Bissouma for latest red card

After Yves Bissouma picked up a straight red card in the game against Nottingham Forest this weekend, former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood revealed his disgust at the Malian’s behaviour.

Tottenham Hotspur made it back-to-back wins for the first time since October, with a fairly unremarkable, relatively comfortable 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Friday night.

Goals from Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski sealed all three points for the Lilywhites on their visit to the City Ground, but the result was tarnished somewhat by the fact that Yves Bissouma was sent off.

The Spurs man put in a reckless, high challenge on Nottingham Forest’s Ryan Yates, and received a yellow card from the on-field referee. However, this was overturned after VAR intervention, with Bissouma picking up a straight red.

Bissouma will now miss the next four games for Tottenham through suspension, with this being his second red card of the season—he was also sent off against Luton Town after being found guilty of diving.

Bissouma criticised for a dangerous challenge

Speaking after the game, Tim Sherwood lambasted Bissouma for his actions and insisted the midfielder could have seriously harmed his opponent.

He told Premier League Productions: “This is poor. This is an absolutely disgusting tackle. He loses control of it and he just tries to hurt Yates there.

“Yates does well to jump up but that is straight-legged and it’s a leg breaker. I’m not sure why the referee took so long to give the red card because it’s clear and obvious it’s a dangerous tackle. Shocking tackle!”

Spurs Web Opinion

It wasn’t a good tackle at all from Bissouma, and it is not the kind of behaviour you want to see from a Spurs player. We should be aggressive and want to win the ball, but that never has to mean endangering an opponent.
