‘Lost the battle’ – On-loan Spurs man rated as worst player for his team

The print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (24/10/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness) handed Tanguy Ndombele the worst rating of any Napoli player in their 1-0 win over AS Roma on Sunday.

Ndombele’s loan spell at Naples has been a mixed bag so far. The midfielder struggled to get game time in the first couple of months at the club but has got a few starts under his belt over recent weeks, and shown glimpses of his quality.

However, questions have continued to be raised over the fitness of the 25-year-old (Area Napoli), which certainly will not surprise Spurs fans.

Ndombele started for Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday and played 57 minutes before being replaced by Elif Elmas.

Gazzetta have not been kind to the on-loan Tottenham man for his showing, giving him a rating of just 5.5/10 – the lowest in the Napoli side.

The report states that Ndombele ‘lost a ball against [Mady] Camara at the start, leading to the dangerous AS Roma counterattack’ before adding he overall simply ‘lost the battle with the Guinean’.

The print edition of Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) was slightly more generous with Ndombele, giving him a rating of 6/10.

The report states that the midfielder was ‘taking on a fatigue that would even demolish even a man in one piece’, which suggests that his lack of fitness was the main reason he was taken off by Luciano Spalletti.

Spurs Web Opinion

It does not seem like Ndombele is pulling up any trees in Naples and it appears as if he still struggles to complete 90 minutes. Unless the 25-year-old improves drastically over the coming months, it is difficult to see Napoli taking up the option to sign him permanently.
