Lothar Matthaus raves about Spurs attacker ahead of Dortmund tie

Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund both come into the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie at Wembley with several key players out.

With Harry Kane and Dele Alli ruled out with injuries, Spurs will once again be relying on Son Heung-Min to provide the goal threat.

Son has been in the terrific form of late having found the back of the net 11 times in his last 13 appearances in the Premier League. The South Korean has a great record against Dortmund having scored 8 goals in the 10 occasions he has faced them.

German legend Lothar Matthaus has insisted that BVB will have to be wary of the 26-year-old going into the game at Wembley.

Matthaus said that while Son was a good player during his time in Bundesliga with Hamburg and Bayern Leverkusen, he has improved even further as a player over the last three years.

Speaking to The Sun, Matthaus said, “In Germany we all saw that Heung-min Son was a decent player in his time at Leverkusen. It is clear, though, that he is a better player, a more consistent and confident one, now.

“When he was in the Bundesliga, he had a lot of chances but missed too many of them. He has improved at Tottenham, especially in the last three years. He has learned and seems calmer when the chances come now.

“You can see his focus is better and so is his finishing. It is not a surprise that he has scored so many goals and he is in terrific form at the moment, which is good for Spurs and bad for Dortmund.”
