Louis Saha urges Mourinho to ‘find a way’ to get 25-year-old into the Spurs side

Louis Saha has claimed that Jose Mourinho has not used Carlos Vinicius as much as he could have over recent months and insisted that the Brazilian has to play more regularly if he is to take some of the goal-scoring burden away from Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Both Kane and Son started the season in spectacular form and their brilliant partnership was one of the main reasons behind Tottenham flying high in the table.

However, both players have failed to hit their usual heights over recent weeks and predictably, Spurs’ results have suffered.

The Lilywhites have now picked up just two points in their last four league games and have subsequently dropped to seventh place in the table.

Saha believes that other players need to chip in with goals if Tottenham are to compete at the top end of the table.

The former Manchester United striker told Ladbrokes (as relayed by Football.London): “It is a worry that aside from Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, only Tanguy Ndombele has scored more than one league goal this season. Spurs have a decision to make in January.

“They need to look at players who can help get them more goals – even if that means signing another striker.

“I don’t think that they have used Carlos Vinicius enough this season, even in a competition like the League Cup.

“It’s something that needs to be addressed because if Kane and Son aren’t scoring, you don’t know where your goals are going to come from.

“I think they need to give Vinicius more of a chance during the rest of the season. The answer isn’t necessarily to bring in another striker because they brought him in last summer.”

Saha insisted that successful teams cannot rely on the same players to get their goals and warned Mourinho that he is risking Kane potentially picking up another injury by playing him in almost every game.

He added: “Yes, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son have been exceptional this season so it’s hard to get another striker into the team, but you have to find a way of maintaining the form and confidence of players that aren’t playing.

“I’m not going to teach Jose Mourinho how to do that because he’s a master.

“But the reason we were so successful at Man United was because we had four strikers who could all score goals and it took the pressure off all of us.

“It’s not easy to achieve because when you’re in form it’s hard to change a winning team, but Tottenham have dropped points in their last four matches so maybe this is the time to give someone like Vinicius a chance.

“We saw last year Harry Kane had a serious injury that kept him out and we saw a difference in Tottenham – so you have to address the problem you may find yourself in if someone as important and influential as him gets injured again.”

Vinicius has also had fitness issues over the last few weeks which might be the reason why Mourinho has not played him as often as he would have liked. I would like to see Harry Kane playing off Vinicius in certain games as the Brazilian can potentially pin defenders back and afford the England captain more space to influence the game.
