‘Love his potential’ – Mourinho heaps praise on summer signing

Jose Mourinho hailed the quality of the Tottenham Hotspur squad and admitted that he has been impressed by what he has seen of Joe Rodon so far.

The Spurs boss named a much-changed side for the Lilywhites’ Europa League group stage opener on Thursday, with Gareth Bale making his first start since his return and Carlos Vinicius being handed his debut for the club.

The North Londoners still had no problems getting the job done as they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.

Out of Tottenham’s seven new signings, Joe Rodon is the only one who is yet to get a run out since arriving at the club.

The central defender could not play a part on Thursday as he was not signed in time to be named in the club’s Europa League group stage squad but some Spurs fans want to see him take to the field against Burnley this evening, due to the aerial threat that Sean Dyche’s men pose.

Mourinho admitted that he is excited by the 23-year-old’s potential but hinted that he is not quite ready to start just yet.

Speaking after Tottenham’s win over LASK, the Portuguese coach told Football.London: “Joe Rodon, we just love his potential, his mentality. He needs to work to get there.”
