‘Loving the challenge’ – Ange Postecoglou speaks on his work ahead at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou was named the London Football Awards Manager of the Year last night, and the Tottenham Hotspur boss revealed why he was a little surprised to win the award, while also insisting there is still lots of work to be done at the club.

A lot has happened since Ange Postecoglou took over as Tottenham manager in the summer of 2023. In less than a year, the Australian has totally transformed the North London side, from the playing style, to transfer strategy, and the general mood around the club.

Results have been pretty decent, too, with the Lilywhites currently sitting in fifth place in the Premier League table and standing a really good chance of claiming a top four spot come the end of the season, and with it, Champions League qualification.

Postecoglou still has lots to do at Spurs

While still early in his tenure, it’s safe to say Postecoglou has been a success so far. And now, he has an award to prove it, after he was crowned manager of the year at the LFA ceremony on Thursday night, but the Spurs boss was only concerned with the work that lies ahead.

In an interview (via BBC Sport), he said: “A little bit bizarre, obviously honoured. I’ve not really made the impact I’ve wanted to yet but what we’ve done so far as a football club, people have noticed which is great. I think supporters have enjoyed elements of our football so far and there’s more to come.

“I’ve only been here seven or eight months and we still haven’t achieved anywhere near what we want to, so there’s a lot of work to do. I’m loving the challenge in front of us.”

Even though Ange has done an amazing job this year, it is a little surprising that he won this award. But, his impact cannot be overstated: he has completely stabilised the club and has got Spurs fans very excited for the first time in years.
