Lucas Bergvall received a yellow card warning from a referee three weeks after the incident

Lucas Bergvall has admitted that he made a big mistake during Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Brighton and was warned about it by a referee in a subsequent match.

While the young Swede had an impressive debut season at Spurs, some pundits have said that Bergvall has been even better so far this season.

The 19-year-old continues to go from strength to strength, and Thomas Frank has admitted that Bergvall has a very high ceiling, adding that his main objective is to get the youngster to fulfil his potential.

The Spurs midfielder has been backed to be the linchpin of Tottenham’s midfield for many years, but his youth and naivety do show on some occasions, like they did in the Lilywhites’ 2-2 draw against Brighton last month.

Lucas Bergvall admits he made a big error during a Tottenham corner routine

It was reported after Tottenham’s draw at the Amex Stadium that Bergvall broke Law 11 of the FA rulebook when a corner kick was about to be taken.

The incident occurred when the North London side won a corner in the first half, with the 19-year-old sprinting from the back post to the near post before it was taken.

However, he decided to do that by running behind the Brighton goal instead of across the front, and this was spotted by referee Chris Kavanagh, who halted play to have a word with the midfielder.

According to the rule book, players who deliberately leave the field of play and re-enter without the referee’s permission must be cautioned, and the Spurs midfielder has revealed that he was informed about the law in a subsequent game.

Bergvall told Aftonbladet about the incident: “I don’t even know what I did. In retrospect, I found out that I could have gotten a yellow card for it, so it probably wasn’t that smart. But now I know for the future. Some referee told me that a few games later. I was surprised, but it’s not something I’d do again.”

Bergvall admits his position has changed at Spurs this season

The 19-year-old has confessed that there has been a change in his role this season under Thomas Frank.

Speaking a couple of weeks ago, Bergvall stated that he is transitioning from a number eight to a number ten in the new Tottenham system.

The Swede explained that he is working hard on some aspects of his game, including adding more goals and assists, which will excite Spurs supporters.
