Lucas Bergvall says it ‘feels like the beginning of an era’ at Tottenham in first interview

In his first interview with Tottenham’s official channel, Lucas Bergvall has admitted that the chance to join a young, hungry Spurs team and play under Ange Postecoglou was too good to refuse.

Bergvall may still be quite raw, having had just half a season in the Swedish top flight, but there is no doubt about the 18-year-old’s talent.

The young midfielder, who is technically gifted and has a great engine, is seen by many in Sweden as a potential future superstar, which is why a whole host of clubs around Europe, including the likes of Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, tried to sign him in January (Expressen).

In the end, the race came down to Tottenham and Barcelona on transfer deadline day, with Spurs managing to see off competition from the Catalan giants by reportedly guaranteeing the youngster that he would go straight into their first team (Mundo Deportivo).

Bergvall is ready for a new era at Tottenham

Bergvall himself has now opened up about his decision to sign for the North London club, describing the move as a dream come true.

He told the club’s official channel: “It has always been my dream to play in the Premier League – the best league in the world. It is a really good club with a great manager and a hungry and young team, which plays really good football and it is really really fun to watch. So, it is a pleasure for me to join this big club.

“Feels like it is the beginning of an era, with a really great coach, Ange. He is a really great man and a really great coach and he gives a lot of young players a chance to make it in the big stage. I am a young player, I know that but I really like to help the team by giving my best.”

The decision by Radu Dragusin and Bergvall to reject Bayern and Barca respectively in favour of a move to Tottenham is evidence that something special is happening at N17.

These players would have seen the way the likes of Destiny Udogie and Pape Sarr have thrived under Postecoglou and come to the conclusion that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the right environment for them to take the next step.
