Lucas Moura insists that Spurs are title challengers

Lucas Moura signed for Spurs back in January, but was only used by Pochettino for 72 minutes of the last Premier League campaign.

The manager instead opted to take the time to build the Brazilian’s fitness, and to integrate him into a new way of life, and a new style of football.

Well, the rewards are being reaped this season, as Moura not only scored three goals in his first three games, but also scooped up the August Premier League Player of the Month award.

His brilliant curled effort against Fulham helped get Spurs up and running, and his stunning brace at Old Trafford made him the all time top Spurs scorer at the ground after just one visit.

Not only this, but Moura has brought a new-found positivity and confidence to Spurs, insisting that they can go on to do great things this season.

Moura told The Mirror: “We know we are a good team. Winning the first three games of the season proves that we are doing things well, and that we can go far in the Premier League this season.

“It’s still very early, but we are going for everything this year, and we want to give the fans a lot of joy.

“I believe we have a great squad, that we’re very competitive and have the right level to fight for the title.

“Tottenham is one of the great clubs of England, and at a stadium with a bigger capacity, it can get even bigger. We are at the most important moment to grow as a club.

“There is a big future here in the Premier League and Champions League, and we can go a long way in Europe, even now. It’s an exciting time.”

The 26-year-old will surely be back in action during Tottenham’s next encounter against title challengers Liverpool at Wembley.

Spurs will have Heung-Min Son back by September 15, and it will be an interesting battle to see the two stars fight for one starting spot.
