Lucas Moura reveals that Pochettino masterminded his quick City goal

Smash and grab is certainly one way to describe Tottenham’s performance against Man City at the weekend, as the Lilywhites converted their two shots on target to earn a 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile, Man City battered the Spurs defence for almost 90 minutes, with a mixture of luck, determination, and good defending limiting the reigning champions to just two goals.

After goals from Sterling, Lamela, and Aguero, the score sat at 2-1 and Man City certainly looked the more likely to kill the game off with an all-important third.

However, a certain Mr Lucas Moura had something to say about that when he was subbed on for Harry Winks with half an hour to go.

From entering the pitch at the touchline to scoring a header from a corner, Lucas was only on the pitch for a total of 19.06 seconds. That’s some impact sub!

The Brazilian has now revealed that Pochettino told him exactly where to stand for the corner before subbing him on, with the goal coming just seconds later.

He’s magic, you know!

Lucas said (Sky Sports coverage of Man City v Tottenham – 17/08/2019 – 4:30 pm): “He gave me the position I need to play. During the corner, he [Pochettino] said ‘go stand on the penalty mark’ and I was there. He only said to be on the penalty mark. Before I entered [the field of play], I was thinking about the action. I was thinking ‘I will score a goal’. When I saw the ball, I just said ‘I will jump and I will score’ and that’s it. I’m so happy for this. To help the team and that’s it.”
