Lucas Moura sends message to Spurs fans after playing his final home game

Lucas Moura has taken to Twitter to send a message to the Tottenham faithful following his final home match for the club this weekend.

Lucas Moura has been a Spurs player for the past five years and has always given everything for the badge, but it will be remembered in Tottenham folklore for just 45 minutes of football.

His second-half hat-trick against Ajax in Amsterdam to pull Spurs back from the brink and qualify for their first-ever Champions League final is the kind of thing that will be replayed for decades.

Unfortunately, his final chance to play in front of the Spurs home crowd was far less memorable, as he came off the bench to play out a 3-1 defeat to Brentford.

Nonetheless, Moura took to Twitter after the defeat to thank the Spurs fans and to assure them the club will always have a place in his heart.

He wrote: ‘I can’t believe it’s time to say goodbye.

‘I don’t have the words to explain how grateful I am for having had the opportunity to defend this badge.

‘Thank you very much Spurs family, God bless you all. I will always love you.’

Spurs Web Opinion:

It is so rare for a player to be immortalised in the history books of a club in the way that Lucas Moura will be.

I’m so glad he got a good send-off yesterday despite the result and some poor performances recently.
