Lucas Moura sets out his objective at Spurs this season

Lucas Moura has set his sights on winning the Carabao Cup after helping Tottenham seal progression to the quarter-final stage of the competition with a 1-0 win over Burnley on Wednesday.

Moura was named on the bench as Nuno Espirito Santo started Bryan Gil and Steven Bergwijn on either side of Harry Kane at Turf Moor but the Brazilian came on sooner than he would have expected, replacing the injured Gil in the 25th minute.

The 29-year-old looked dangerous whenever he got on the ball and eventually scored his side’s winner when he met Emerson Royal’s cross with a well-placed header.

Tottenham fell in the final hurdle in the Carabao Cup last season after they were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City in the final.

As the Lilywhites wait to discover who their next opponents will be, Moura sees no reason why they cannot go one better this season and lift the trophy.

When asked if Spurs can win the Carabao Cup, the forward told The Independent: “Why not? It is another opportunity to get a trophy. It is a short way to get a trophy and we will fight.

“My objective is to get a trophy, always be a champion. We will fight for this and always give our best and the Carabao Cup is a good opportunity for us.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Most Spurs fans will accept a seventh or eighth-place finish this season if it meant that the club would win a trophy. The Carabao Cup represents our best opportunity to do so, particularly given that Man City have now been knocked out. However, a lot will depend on the draw as there are still several strong teams left in the competition.
