It no doubt would have been a surreal last few days for Luca Williams-Barnett, who was handed his first start for Tottenham Hotspur at just 16 years of age in the Carabao Cup third round.

Although his involvement only lasted seven minutes, it was still a landmark moment for the teenager who has been catching the eye in the club’s Under-21 side with his impressive displays.

Williams-Barnett was also handed legacy number 900 for Tottenham following his debut appearance, and in the process, he became the club’s youngest-ever Carabao Cup debutant.

Tottenham debut sparks reminder of Lucas Moura’s advice to Luca Williams-Barnett

Old footage has now resurfaced showing a very young Williams-Barnett when he was given the chance to interview former Tottenham man Lucas Moura in 2019.

The teenager was invited to quiz the Brazilian during a drive around Hotspur Way, where Moura shared a message that has now taken on even greater significance following the youngster’s debut.

When asked for his best piece of advice, Moura told Williams-Barnett: “Never give up, always give your best, every day, every time. And for your life, never get tired of doing good things for people. To be a gentleman.”

The youngster has definitely been giving his best out there on the pitch, and following his ten goal contributions at the U21 level, he finally got his Tottenham debut just a few days ago.

Luca Williams-Barnett also asked Moura about his experience of being left out of Tottenham’s Champions League final starting XI for Harry Kane earlier that year.

Despite scoring a sensational hat-trick against Ajax in the semi-final, Moura lost his place to Kane, who had just returned from injury, and the Brazilian admitted it was a painful experience to process.

Speaking about the decision in that interview, Moura said: “This game was… I cried a lot. Of course, it was difficult for me, especially because of what happened in the semi-final. But I wanted to win the game. I wanted to win this trophy, and I believed we could win. So, it was very difficult.”
