‘Lucky I didn’t see you’ – Conte sends funny message to Tuchel after altercation

Antonio Conte has taken to social media to state that Thomas Tuchel was lucky he did not see him run down the touchline following Chelsea’s second goal against Spurs.

The game at Stamford Bridge was an entertaining affair, not just because of the drama on the pitch but also due to what happened on the sideline.

There was no love lost between Conte and Tuchel, who had to be separated after squaring up when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored Tottenham’s equaliser in the second half.

Both the Chelsea and Spurs bosses were shown a yellow card after that incident but that did not stop Tuchel from sprinting past the Italian when the home side re-took the lead through Reece James in the 77th minute.

Tottenham managed to salvage a point thanks to Harry Kane’s glancing header deep into stoppage time.

After the final whistle, Tuchel and Conte squared off again, with the Chelsea boss seemingly demanding that the Italian look him in the eye while shaking his hand, leading to both managers being shown a red card.

Conte played down the incident in his post-match press conference (Football.London) but the Italian has now taken a cheeky swipe at Tuchel for his celebration after Chelsea’s second goal.

The 53-year-old wrote on his Instagram story – on 14/08/22 (via Sky Sports) about Tuchel sprinting down the touchline: “Lucky I didn’t see you…making you trip over would have been well deserved “, along with laugh emojis.

Spurs Web Opinion

The needle between Conte and Tuchel certainly added the drama of the encounter. While both coaches did get carried away in the heat of the moment, I do not think either of them crossed a line. So, I think the red card was quite harsh, particularly for Conte, given that it was Tuchel who did not let go of the Italian’s hand.
