Luka Modric reveals whether he could follow Gareth Bale in Tottenham return

Luka Modric has admitted that a return to Tottenham Hotspur is not on the cards for him as he is simply too old to follow Gareth Bale’s lead and seal a return to North London.

Like Bale, Modric made a name for himself at White Hart Lane before Real Madrid came calling.

After four excellent seasons at Tottenham, where the club managed two top-four finishes, the Croatian international completed a move to the Spanish capital in 2012, a year before Bale arrived.

While Modric did not have the best of first seasons with Los Blancos, he has since gone on to become one of their most consistent performers in recent history.

He has played in some stellar names, won a bucket load of silverware, including four Champions League titles, and even won the Ballon d’Or in 2018.

The 35-year-old may be in the twilight of his career but is still seemingly an important part of Zinedine Zidane’s plans.

While Modric ruled out a return to Spurs, he did admit that he does not intend to stop playing football anytime soon.

He told FourFourTwo (as relayed by The Daily Mail): “I’m too old to go back to Tottenham. I still have a year left in Madrid and then we’ll see what happens.

“I feel good and I want to continue playing football for a few more years. I am focused on Madrid and the things we can achieve this season.

“Afterwards I will sit down to talk to the management, and we will look for a suitable solution for everyone. I have forged a good relationship with all the people of the club and no matter what happens there will be no problem.”
