Lyon confirm bids for Lucas Paqueta amidst rumoured Tottenham interest

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that the Ligue 1 club have received multiple offers for rumoured Tottenham target Lucas Paqueta.

Spurs seemingly passed up on the chance to bring Christian Eriksen back to the club but reports indicate that the club continue to be on the lookout for a playmaker this summer (Evening Standard).

Paqueta, who scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in 2021/22 (Transfermarkt), is said to be one of the names on Antonio Conte’s radar (Football.London).

L’Equipe reported over the weekend that the 24-year-old has expressed a desire to leave Lyon this summer and that the French club would be willing to sell him if they receive a suitable offer.

According to Media Foot’s recent update, Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal are keen on snapping up Paqueta and have stepped up their efforts to land the player.

Amidst the speculation over the Brazilian’s future, Aulas has now confirmed that Lyon have received proposals for the attacking midfielder.

He said regarding Paqueta (via The Evening Standard): “There are proposals for him. There are certain players who can feel complete in the project, and others who don’t.

“Economically, we have the means to pursue our ideas and objectives. The coach gave us his opinion and there is also what the players wants to do.”

I expect Tottenham to sign an attacking midfielder before the window shuts, particularly given that Lo Celso and Ndombele appear nailed on to depart the club.

The fact that Spurs did not push ahead with a move for Eriksen suggests that Paratici and Conte have other options in mind, and Paqueta may well be the player they are eyeing.
