James Maddison has refused to put a ceiling on Tottenham’s ambitions, insisting that he and his teammates are capable of achieving something special this season.
The FA Cup loss to Manchester City last week was quite deflating for the Spurs fan base as the competition represented the club’s best chance of ending their trophy drought this season.
What was particularly disappointing was the fact that the Lilywhites were distinctly second best, struggling to even lay a glove on City at times.
Some of the feel-good factor around the club has returned after Ange Postecoglou’s men came from behind to overcome Brentford on Wednesday night, even if the Lilywhites then dropped points to Everton this afternoon.
Perhaps the biggest positive from the week was Maddison’s return to the starting eleven, with the attacking midfielder demonstrating exactly what Tottenham have missed over the last three months by dictating proceedings for much of the two games.

Maddison says there is no ceiling for Tottenham
Speaking before the Everton draw, Maddison admitted that he and his teammates are now looking to chase down the teams above them.
The 27-year-old said (via George Sessions): “There’s no ceiling because there’s more chance of something special happening. We’re three points behind second place, so let’s not put a ceiling on it.”

There is still a long way to go this season and there is no doubt that we will have plenty of more twists and turns. Postecoglou will want his players to take things one game at a time rather than looking at the table.
The one silver lining with being out of the FA Cup is that the Australian will have a week to prepare for almost every single league game until the end of the season.
