Tottenham Hotspur made club history last night in Manchester as they qualified for the Champions League semi final for the first time ever.
The last and only time Tottenham were in the quarter finals of the competition was back in 2011, with Real Madrid battering them 5-0 across two legs.
This time around, Tottenham achieved their goal by scoring three away goals at the Etihad, the home of the Premier League champions.
Spurs lost the match 4-3 on the night, but thanks to Sonny’s strike in the 1-0 win at home last Tuesday, and the three away goals last night, Tottenham go through to the next round.
It was a rollercoaster of emotions for Spurs through the match, as they conceded early, then scored two away goals, then were pegged back to 4-2 and heading out, before scoring late, and surviving a VAR scare in the final seconds.
Pochettino has now reacted to the crazy night in Manchester (Football London): “The most important now is we are in the semi-final and we deserve to be in the semi-final. My players are heroes. I told you before the game, whatever happens I am going to feel proud. To qualify for the semi-final and making history I am more than happy I am more than proud for them.
“I cannot say it is my best game [in my career], because 4-3 for Manchester City, you know, it is unbelievable to be in Champions League in the quarter-final and beat Man City because in both legs it was very competitive and both legs were even. To score three goals here was not easy. I think it was against Crystal Palace… in a game that is like a final, it is difficult to see Manchester City concede the goals they conceded today. One of the most important times in my career like a manager, of course one of the best. To be in the semi final was a dream before and now we are there.”
