‘Magic’ – Spurs’ social media team single out summer signing for heroic piece of play

Wales had Joe Rodon to thank last night after they held onto all three points for a vital win against the Czech Republic.

Daniel James had given Wales the lead with a header from a Gareth Bale cross in the 82nd minute of the World Cup qualifier in Cardiff, but it was a piece of heroic defending from the Tottenham Hotspur defender which caught the eye.

Deep into injury time, the Czech’s attempted one final attack on the Welsh goal which saw a neat piece of play allowing Ondřej Čelůstka some space in the penalty area to unleash a shot which was destined for the back of the net, only for Rodon to outstretch his right leg deny what looked to be a certain equaliser.

After the final whistle, the Spurs stopper was mobbed by some of his team-mates in what was their first victory in Group E.

Former Spurs defender Michael Dawson spoke exclusively to SpursWeb last week and revealed that he would like to see Jose Mourinho keep faith in selecting Rodon and Japhet Tanganga for Sunday’s match against Newcastle after they both impressed during the last Premier League fixture at Aston Villa.

The Spurs official Twitter account described Rodon’s effort as ‘magic’.
