‘Magician’ – Ex-Spurs star explains what Pochettino was like behind the scenes

Kieran Tripper has lavished praise on Mauricio Pochettino’s man management, revealing that the Argentine was able to intuitively understand how the players were feeling.

According to various reports, Pochettino is expected to be confirmed as the new Chelsea boss by the end of this week after a breakthrough in talks between the parties (Football.London).

While the writing has seemingly been on the wall for several weeks now, seeing the Argentine hold up a Chelsea shirt will still be an extremely unpleasant sign for many Spurs supporters, given the connection he built with the fan base during his five-and-a-half-year spell in North London.

However, it would be unfair to blame Pochettino for accepting the Blues job, given that Tottenham reportedly did not even reach out to him regarding the managerial vacancy, which is alleged to have left him disappointed (talkSPORT).

Trippier has now given some insight into what it was like to work with the 51-year-old, describing the Argentine as ‘a magician’.

The former Spurs right-back said on the High Performance Podcast: “It’s funny. It’s like he knew everything about you. It’s like he had cameras everywhere.

“He knew if you didn’t sleep well, if you were in a bad mood, he was a good man-manager, he knew when to speak to you and when not to speak to you, when to pull you in, when not to.

“He was like a magician at times.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We will perhaps never truly know why it is that the Tottenham hierarchy decided against bringing Pochettino back to the club.

What I find strange is the fact that they wanted him back when he was at PSG back in 2021 but have changed their mind since, which perhaps might have been down to Steve Hitchen’s exit.
