Manchester City are ready to make a world-record bid to sign Tottenham’s 20-year-old midfielder Dele Alli – eclipsing the £89m paid by Manchester United for Paul Pogba.
According to the Daily Express, the midfielder who has been linked with moves to Paris-Saint Germain and Real Madrid in recent weeks is also wanted by Pep Guardiola.
It’s frustrating as a Spurs fan to yet again read more fabricated nonsense from the Sunday papers, but as a Spurs blog – we have to cover it and give our opinions.
I’m sure there isn’t a team in the world who would want to sign Dele Alli – however persuading Daniel Levy and co to part company with England’s brightest talent is another question. There would be a revolt if we sold him.
We do have a stadium to pay for, but selling Dele would be a massive mistake and something which the Spurs hierarchy would hopefully not entertain.
One thing is for sure, players like Dele need to be playing regular Champions League football. Finishing in the top four has never been so important for us to retain our star players.
