Man City star says he sees Tottenham as title contenders this season

Manchester City midfielder Rodri believes that Tottenham Hotspur can win the Premier League title this season.

Spurs have enjoyed a solid start to the season, having picked up a total of 17 points from 21 on offer so far, and are the only team in the Premier League apart from Manchester City who are yet to be beaten.

Despite their results, some of Tottenham’s displays have not been all that convincing, and some pundits have suggested that it is only a matter of time before the Lilywhites’ performances catch up to them (talkSPORT).

However, Rodri believes that Antonio Conte has drilled the Tottenham team ‘perfectly’ and the Spurs players know exactly what they want to do with great precision.

The City star told Gazzetta Dello Sport about the North Londoners: “They have put together a great squad and they have a manager who has very clear ideas and who knows how to convey them perfectly.

“They know what they have to do and they do it with great precision. I see Spurs as candidates for the title. Conte’s career speaks for itself.”

However, Rodri was more damning regarding his assessment of Liverpool, who have had a poor start to the season.

The Spaniard insisted that he is not completely surprised by the struggles of Jurgen Klopp’s men, insisting that the Reds are ‘less effective’ than they have been in previous seasons.

When asked about Liverpool’s start to the season, the 25-year-old said: “Only partially [surprised]. The Premier League level is so high that as soon as you slow down, you lose points.

“Liverpool are not in crisis, they are just less effective, and the Premier League does not allow you to relax.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is too early to talk about Tottenham as potential title contenders. It is worth remembering that we were top of the league until December under Mourinho a couple of years ago, only to collapse and finish seventh. Unfortunately, I do not see us or any other team keeping pace with City throughout the season.
