Man City star’s ex-partner tells Harry Kane’s wife failed move is ‘lucky escape’

The ex-wife of Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez has suggested to Harry Kane’s wife that the Tottenham man’s botched transfer to the reigning champions is probably a ‘lucky escape’.

Rita Johal, who is a singer, met Mahrez in 2014 during his time at Leicester City, but claims they grew apart after his move to the Etihad changed his lifestyle due to the added pressure.

The Algerian international moved to City in 2018 in a deal that cost £60 million, and has been a hit for Pep Guardiola’s side en route to winning a number of trophies.

Guardiola wanted Spurs forward Kane to join the City ranks this summer but could not strike a deal, with Daniel Levy holding out for a reported £160 million bid at minimum for the England captain.

Kane, though, recently announced his plans to stay in N17 this season, confirming his intentions in a statement on social media.

But Mahrez’s former wife Johal believes the failed move could be a blessing in disguise for Kane and his partner, to avoid the same fate they allegedly experienced.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: “I can’t comment on other people’s lives but moving there changed my husband, Harry Kane’s wife (Katie Goodland) probably had a lucky escape. Others should be careful.

“Riyad let fame go to his head. He changed when he went to Manchester City. The Riyad I met is a different person to the one he is now. He parties, he acts like a flash footballer.

“I don’t hate him, that’s a strong word, but I am shocked and saddened by what he has done. He suddenly left me, blaming the pressures of playing at Manchester City. Now he spends all his time jetting around the place on holiday without a care in the world.”

That warning from Mahrez’s former wife could signal a lucky break for Kane’s partner. City is a place where they demand multiple pieces of silverware every season, so of course, the stakes are going to be much higher, meaning pressure to perform is always likely to be a priority.
