Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of strengthening their squad through the free-agent market could yet face complications, with growing interest from several Premier League rivals threatening to disrupt Spurs’ move for Marcos Senesi.

Spurs Web have since highlighted the opportunity available in the free-agent market, one that Tottenham Hotspur could explore.

If Spurs were to dip into the free-transfer market and make a few shrewd additions, it could free up funds for investment in other areas of the squad.

Spurs Web have since reported on Tottenham and Marcos Senesi reaching an agreement, with the defender out of contract in the summer, while Robertson is also said to have reached a verbal agreement to join Spurs when his contract expires this summer.

Both arrivals, though, depend on Tottenham securing Premier League football next season, which is still not guaranteed as they are just two points clear of 18th place with two games to play.

Tottenham face Chelsea and Manchester United battle for Marcos Senesi

Despite his agreement with Tottenham, journalist Cesar Luis Merlo is now reporting that Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool remain in the race for Senesi.

All three clubs could do with defensive reinforcements, with Chelsea possessing a relatively inexperienced backline and potentially needing a player with Senesi’s experience.

Liverpool could soon need to plan for life after Virgil van Dijk, while Senesi would represent a cost-effective signing for the Reds.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are back in the Champions League and can offer the Argentine European football, while Michael Carrick’s side could also benefit from greater squad depth.

Spurs still relying on Premier League survival

Bournemouth only recently confirmed Senesi’s departure at the end of the season after four years at the Vitality Stadium.

Tottenham’s focus, in the meantime, will be on securing their own Premier League status as they could still lose it should West Ham United outperform them in the final games of the season.

A point against Chelsea could be enough for Spurs to secure their league status, but only if Newcastle United beat West Ham in their own clash.
