Man United agree fee after Dutch journalist claimed Van de Beek could be Spurs bound

Fox Netherlands journalist Jan-Joost van Gangelen claimed yesterday (translated by Sport Witness) that Donny van de Beek could be on his way to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Sun reported back in March that the Ajax star was on Spurs’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

Sport claimed last week that Tottenham were one of four clubs interested in signing the 23-year-old along with Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.

They revealed that the Nou Camp was the midfielder’s preferred destination and he was waiting to see if Barcelona could meet Ajax’s €55 million (£49million) asking price.

Multiple reports since then have claimed that Van de Beek is on the verge of sealing a move to Old Trafford.

However, Jan-Joost van Gangelen, who admitted to speaking with Van de Beek’s agent, Guido Albers at the Ajax training ground, has suggested that the midfielder could actually be nearing a move to Tottenham rather than Man Utd.

When asked what Van de Beek’s next destination is likely to be, the journalist is quoted as saying: “I think it’s Spurs”.

Despite this, multiple reports late last night revealed that Manchester United had in fact agreed a £40m fee with Ajax for the midfielder, subject to personal terms and a medical (BBC).

The deal is expected to be concluded this week, with Spurs seemingly missing out on the Dutch star.
