Tottenham Hotspur are set to reignite their interest in Maghnes Akliouche, but a deal for the Monaco star will not be straightforward for the Lilywhites to complete.

Tottenham explored a move for Akliouche until the final days of the January window, but were not able to get it over the line.

Reports indicate that the Monaco star remains near the top of Spurs’ wishlist in the lead-up to the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old’s stock continues to rise, with the attacking midfielder having seven goals and 11 assists to his name across all competitions so far this term, and there has now been an update on his future.

Tottenham are keeping tabs on Maghnes Akliouche but they face one roadblock

Football Insider have now reported that the France international is ‘edging closer’ to an exit from Monaco this summer as he remains in Tottenham’s sights.

The outlet spoke to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who confirmed that the Lilywhites are fans of the Monaco man but suggested they may struggle to win the race for the player after failing to qualify for Europe.

O’Rourke told the website: “Maghnes Akliouche is obviously a player who’s been on their radar for a long time. Tottenham will be keeping tabs on him, and they are looking to be kept informed on his future.

“Monaco are well aware of the growing interest in him and probably would sell at the right price. For Tottenham, I’m sure they’ll be looking to be in that race for him.

“But I think it’ll be difficult for them just due to that lack of European football and because of the probable rival interest from other clubs.”

Man United ready to challenge Spurs for Akliouche

Football Insider says that while Monaco rebuffed interest in their star man in January, the Ligue 1 club’s stance is expected to change this summer as they want to sell their star man and raise funds.

However, the outlet claims that Spurs are not the only ones interested in the 24-year-old, with Man United also joining the race for Akliouche after sealing Champions League qualification.

Monaco are expected to demand around £40m for the lanky left-footer, with a number of clubs around Europe ‘an altert’ as they see the Frenchman as an ‘affordable’ option.
