Man United forward may force Roma to move for £30m Tottenham player instead

A comment made by a Man United player after his impressive performance on Sunday could have a big impact on the future of Mathys Tel.

Although Tel has shown some promising signs when opportunities have come his way over recent months, the 20-year-old has not started a game for Tottenham since October.

The Frenchman’s lack of game time has led to speculation over his future ahead of the January window.

It was first reported last month in Italy that AS Roma are plotting a move to sign Tel in January, but it was explained that the Gialorossi see the Tottenham Hotspur man as a backup option in case they are not able to get their top target, Joshua Zirkzee.

Roma ready to step up pursuit of Tottenham forward Mathys Tel

According to a report in Il Messaggero, Roma’s transfer stance has altered slightly due to the developments over the last few days.

While Zirzee is their top target, they noted that the striker scored his first goal of the season in United’s win over Crystal Palace.

Following the game, the Dutchman made comments suggesting he is happy at Old Trafford, and this has been clocked in the Italian capital.

Roma are now exploring moves for alternatives as a result, and Tel is seen as a ‘clear option’ to bolster their attack in January.

Spurs have already made a decision on Tel’s future

A couple of weeks ago, it emerged that Tel is keen to leave Tottenham in January, with the striker unhappy with his lack of game time.

However, it was subsequently reported by Gazzetta dello Sport that Spurs have no intention of selling Tel permanently as they see him as one for the future.

As a result, it was suggested that a loan move to Stadio Olimpico in January may be the only option that works for all parties.
