Man Utd star reveals private phone call with Mourinho after Spurs sacking

Eric Bailly has revealed that he spoke with Jose Mourinho after he was sacked at Spurs and appointed as the new Roma boss.

During Mourinho’s first few months at Tottenham, it seemed as though the experienced coach had learned from the problems he faced at Manchester United.

Mourinho famously did not seem to get along too well with the likes of Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw and those strained relationships seemed to play a role in his sacking.

The 58-year-old showed with his treatment of Tanguy Ndombele at Spurs that he was prepared to put personal issues behind him for the better of the team.

However, the same issues eventually reared their head at Spurs, with Mourinho reportedly falling out with the likes of Dele Alli, Serge Aurier and Gareth Bale.

That is not to say that there were not players who got along very well with Mourinho, with Harry Kane admitting in his interview with Gary Neville last week that he enjoyed working with the former Spurs boss.

Bailly certainly seems to belong to the same camp, admitted that he too has always remained close to the Special One.

The centre-back, who was brought to Old Trafford by the new Roma boss, told The Times: “When he [Mourinho] was sacked from Tottenham I sent him a message and when he signed for Roma I spoke to him on the phone.

“We had a few laughs. He’s a coach I’ve always been good with. Hopefully, he’ll do well in Italy and we’ll meet in the future.”
