Former Italy goalkeeper Marco Amelia, who has coached at the highest level since hanging up his boots, admitted that he wanted to see Guglielmo Vicario remain in the Serie A.
Vicario has quickly become a fan favourite among Tottenham supporters since arriving at the club.
Apart from being an excellent short-stopper and calm with the ball at his feet, the Italian is also evidently quite a passionate man who wears his heart on his sleeve, which is one of the reasons the supporters have really taken to him.
The 27-year-old also appears to be a natural leader and is often extremely vocal on the pitch and has thus helped fill some of the leadership void left by Hugo Lloris’ departure.
It has been reported by several outlets that Tottenham saw off competition from the likes of Juventus and Inter Milan to land the shot-stopper (One Football).

Vicario has been a big loss for Italian football
Amelia has now admitted that he would have loved to see how Vicario developed had to gone to one of the top Italian sides last summer.
The former Livorno goalkeeper, who made over 250 Serie A appearances, told Radio Cusano Campus (as relayed by Sport Witness): “I am disappointed to think that, especially this year, Vicario had to go to the Premier League. Someone from the top (in Italy) could have taken him.
“However, Vicario went on an even bigger journey than playing in Serie A with a top club. He went to Tottenham and is doing very well.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The amount of consternation from Italian pundits and ex-players over the last six months regarding Vicario’s move to Spurs is quite bizarre. However, it also shows just how highly the 27-year-old is thought of back in his native country.
