Manager claims 25-year-old Spurs missed out on is better than Cristian Romero

Torino head coach Ivan Juric has claimed that Gleison Bremer, who was linked with a move to Spurs not too long ago, is a better centre-back than Cristian Romero.

Romero has arguably been one of the best defenders in the Premier League since making the switch to Spurs at the start of last season, and the centre-back has played a key role in helping Argentina win both the Copa America and World Cup recently.

Bremer is another centre-back who Fabio Paratici is thought to have explored signing, with the Brazilian linked with a move to Spurs last summer (90min) on the back of his impressive displays for Torino in 2021-22.

However, it was Juventus who secured the 25-year-old’s services, paying £42.5m to snap him up last summer and the centre-back is having a solid first season at the Allianz Stadium.

Juric, who managed Romero during his time at Genoa, has said following his side’s loss in the Turin derby that Bremer is the best centre-back he has coached.

The Croat told Football Italia about the Juve star: “I think he’s the best defender I’ve ever coached and I’ve worked with some good ones such as Romero.

“Bremer is spectacular. He always wants to improve and he’s worked so much on his technique. He is devastating defensively and he can still improve.”

Romero was just 20 years of age when Juric managed him at Genoa while Bremer was much more mature and complete when he worked with the Croat in Turin.

So, it is not a particularly fair comparison. I doubt any Spurs fan would be willing to swap Romero for the Juve star.
