Manager denies any knowledge of rumoured Spurs target’s release clause

Reading manager Veljko Paunovic has denied any knowledge of there being a transfer release clause in the contract of rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Michael Olise.

Olise broke into the Reading side last year with his performances at the start of this season having reportedly attracted interest.

The 19-yar-old has been a nightmare for defences in the Championship, having already assisted seven goals and found the back of the net on four occasions this campaign (transfermarkt.com).

The Athletic reported recently that Tottenham have been tracking the skilful attacking midfielder for a long time and claimed there is an £8m release clause in his contract.

However, Spurs reportedly face plenty of competition for the Frenchman’s signature, with Liverpool, Everton (TEAMtalk), and Leeds United (Daily Mail) all said to be interested in him.

Paunovic has now said that he has not been informed about any such clause in the French Under-18 international’s contract and advised him to remain at the Madejski Stadium.

When asked if he knows of the reported £8m clause, the Royals boss told Berkshire Live: “No, not at all [aware of it].

“But the most important thing for Michael is that he’s found a place where he is being protected, supported, is playing games more than ever and he is being given opportunities.”

Reading between the lines, Paunovic is not denying that there is a release clause in Olise’s contract but rather merely suggesting that he is not aware of it. I am convinced that the Royals youngster is going to be the next breakthrough star from the Championship. However, an attacking midfielder/wide man is not likely to high on Tottenham’s priority in January.
