Manager ‘holding his breath’ regarding future of rumoured Conte target

According to a report from La Repubblica (as relayed by Inter 1908), Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi is desperate for rumoured Spurs target Marcelo Brozovic to put pen to paper on the new contract offered to him by the Serie A club.

Reports from Italy claimed a couple of months ago that Antonio Conte was keen on reuniting with Brozovic at Spurs (CalcioMercato.it).

The Croat’s current deal at the San Siro runs out at the end of the season and TuttoMercatoWeb revealed recently that the midfielder turned down an approach from Tottenham as he was keen to remain at the San Siro.

La Repubblica have now offered an update on Brozovic’s future, explaining that Inzaghi sees the player as an important part of his plans.

The report explains that Inter’s proposal of €6m (£5m) per season has been on the table since December and the Nerrazuri expected the player to have signed the deal by now.

However, it is revealed that Brozovic hesitated in doing so last month amidst an approach from Barcelona.

The player is also said to be on the radars of both Spurs and Manchester United, who are both thought to be watching the negotiations closely.

La Repubblica add that Brozovic has assured Inter he wants to remain at the club and that the Serie A club’s hierarchy are hoping to announce a renewal within the next few days.

However, amidst the ‘temptations’ from clubs across the continent, it is said that Inzaghi is ‘holding his breath’ and waiting for the experienced midfielder’s signature on the new deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

Brozovic is an extremely intelligent footballer, who understands the demands of Conte’s system well. So, I would not be surprised if the Spurs boss was keen to bring the 29-year-old to North London.

One can also argue that Tottenham are not in desperate need of a defensive midfielder at the moment, with other positions being bigger priorities for Paratici to strengthen in the summer.
