Manager labels on-loan Spurs man’s performances this season as ‘extraordinary’

Udinese boss Andrea Sottil has spoken in glowing terms of the performances that on-loan Tottenham man Destiny Udogie has put in so far this season

Tottenham snapped up Udogie on the back of his impressive breakthrough season at Udinese in 2021/22 and loaned the 19-year-old back to the Serie A club for the remainder of the campaign.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Monday the transfer fee agreed between the two clubs for the left wing-back could rise to €25m (£21.4m) including add-ons.

The journalist added that Spurs were keen on landing the youngster for a ‘bargain’ price this summer since they felt there would be a lot more competition for his signature in twelve months’ time.

On the evidence of how Udogie is started the season, the deal certainly looks like a bargain, with the teenager having scored twice in four Serie A games so far this season (Transfermarkt).

The on-loan Spurs man opened the scoring for Udinese in their 4-0 drubbing of Roma on Sunday, with Sottil left suitably impressed by the left-wing back.

He told Tuttomercatoweb: “Udogie is doing extraordinary games, he has the ability to play, restart and turn like few others. When this team is precise and fast it hurts.”

Based on the way he has started the season, it seems like Udogie has taken confidence from the fact that a club like Tottenham decided to sign him. While it is still early days, this transfer has the makings of another Fabio Paratici masterstroke.
