Monaco coach Philippe Clement has praised the attitude and mentality of right-back Vanderson, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Vanderson won several admirers with his performances for Brazilian club Gremio over the last couple of years prior to his switch to Monaco in January.

Brazilian publication Globo Esporte reported last year that Tottenham had enquired about the 21-year-old’s availability but Gremio refused to enter into talks over the defender’s sale.

Reports in Brazil continued to report ahead of the 2022 January transfer window that Spurs and other Premier League clubs were keen on snapping up the right-back (UOL).

However, it was Monaco who won the race for Vanderson, with the Ligue 1 signing the youngster for (£9.9m) in January (TransferMarkt).

The youngster has continued to impress since his switch to France and he admitted last week that clubs from Italy, England and Russia had shown interest in his services in the past (Onze Mondial).

Clement has now lavished praise on the Brazilian, insisting that he has a hard time getting him off the training pitch.

The Monaco boss told Get France Football News: “Vanderson has been less consistent recently but he is still a young player.

“Every day he wants to be better than the last. That can give him a lot of pressure, lots of stress with all of the ambition that he has. We need to manage that more for him. If I left him to it, he would train for 18 hours a day. He is like that.

“Sometimes, we need physical and mental breaks. He is a young player that needs to manage that. He will do it, because he has such a positive frame of mind.”

Paratici might well be continuing to keep an eye on Vanderson’s progress in France, given that Tottenham might be in need of a right wing-back next summer.

While Spence is one for the future, one can argue that Emerson Royal, despite his improvements, still lacks the quality in the final third to play as a wing-back in Conte’s system while Doherty will turn 31 in January.
