Manager sets the record straight over confusion surrounding Steven Bergwijn

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for PSV star Steven Bergwijn with reports in the last twenty-four hours suggesting that the deal is close to being completed (Fox Sports).

However, there have been a few contradictory reports emerging about the transfer with some suggesting that Tottenham’s initial bid for Bergwijn was rejected and that the lilywhites are yet to make a second offer (Eindhovens Dagblad as relayed by Inside Football).

There were even suggestions that the 22-year-old decided to fly to London to complete his transfer to Spurs without the permission of the PSV hierarchy and management (Football.London), something that the PSV star himself dismissed through a personal message on Instagram.

However, the Eredivisie giants’ boss Ernest Faber has now rejected those claims by indicating that he has indeed given Bergwijn the permission to speak to Spurs.

Fader’s comments indicated that the forward’s move to Spurs was imminent.

Football.London quotes the PSV boss as saying, “I spoke with Stevie.

“He was busy transferring to Tottenham and wanted permission to go there. He was allowed to go there to build a new future.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that this transfer has moved at an extremely rapid pace which is why there has been a lot of misreporting about the details. I believe Bergwijn will a fantastic addition to the squad and will provide much-needed cover to the attacking midfield/winger roles where we are extremely short on personnel.
