Manager will be ‘very angry’ if his player is sold to Spurs this summer – Journalist

Journalist Dean Jones has said that Mauricio Pochettino would be angry with the Chelsea hierarchy if they decide to sell Conor Gallagher to Tottenham.

Even though Gallagher has been a fixture in Chelsea’s starting eleven this season and has been one of their most consistent performers, an exit from Stamford Bridge looks increasingly likely this summer for the 24-year-old, who has just a year left in his contract.

Various reports over the last couple of months have pointed out that the Blues would have to raise a significant amount of funds by the end of June to ensure they do not fall four of the PRS regulations, with the midfielder thus expected to be sacrificed (The Times).

Even though Newcastle have entered the race for the Gallagher recently, Tottenham are still thought to be at the front of the queue, with Football Insider claiming on Wednesday that the Lilywhites are ‘well placed’ to beat the Magpies to the player.

Pochettino would be angry if Gallagher joins Spurs

Jones has now also suggested that the midfielder might prefer to remain in London and join Tottenham but he asserted that Pochettino will not be happy to lose the England international.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “New links have started between Conor Gallagher and Newcastle, and it does not surprise me they would have interest, but I am not sure how far I would expect that to go.

“Obviously, Gallagher doesn’t want to leave Chelsea. He can’t even think about it at the moment, as far as I’ve heard, because he just doesn’t want it to happen.

“But if he does leave Chelsea, I have heard that him moving that far away from his family would not be ideal. I think another club in London could work better, and we know Spurs are keen and that his homegrown status would help them.

“It really is still a case of wait and see because if Pochettino does end up staying beyond this season, he would be very angry to see Gallagher sold.”

Pochettino would have realised by now that Gallagher is almost certain to depart this summer. His primary concern right now will not be about the midfielder’s future but rather saving his own job at Chelsea.
