Manchester United legend wants Alderweireld over Harry Maguire

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has pointed Jose Mourinho in the direction of Toby Alderweireld with just over one day to go in the transfer window.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Leicester City’s Harry Maguire over the summer.

However, speaking to The Mirror legend Rio Ferdinand said he wants to see Alderweireld wearing red:

“Harry Maguire did great at the World Cup, but of the players potentially available he would not be my first choice,” he said.

“I would go for Alderweireld, all day long because he is suited to the way United play.

A deal for Alderweireld has hit the brakes with both clubs unwilling to give in to each other’s demands.

Spurs were keen on a swap deal for Anthony Martial but United quickly denied that possibility.

Therefore, Spurs put a £60m price tag on the 29-year-old but United are not keen on paying that much on a defender who is out of contract this time next year.

Surely, with just over one day to go Daniel Levy will not allow Alderweireld to leave for Manchester United or will he?
