Roberto De Zerbi is keen on bringing Manuel Locatelli to Tottenham this summer, and an experienced Italian coach is confident the player would thrive under the 46-year-old.

According to various reports, De Zerbi is set to have plenty of power in Tottenham’s squad building this summer ahead of his first full season in charge at the club.

The Spurs head coach first has to secure the club’s spot in the Premier League this season, but if he does, De Zerbi could be handed a summer transfer warchest.

The North London club are eyeing a major rebuild of their squad this summer, and the new Tottenham boss has already named one of his top targets to the club’s hierarchy.

Manuel Locatelli backed to thrive under Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham

It has been claimed that De Zerbi has urged Spurs to prioritise a deal for Manuel Locatelli this summer.

However, over recent days, it has emerged that Juventus have made efforts to tie the Tottenham target to a new contract, as they attempt to ward off the Lilywhites’ interest.

Walter De Vecchi, who coached Locatelli during his time at AC Milan, believes that the midfielder will do well under De Zerbi at N17, but he is not surprised that the Bianconeri do not want to let him go.

When asked if the 28-year-old could succeed at Tottenham, De Vecchi told TuttoJuve: “For me, yes, but who wouldn’t want him right now? He’s a player everyone wants, but Juve are right to lock him down. There are few players like him in Europe, and they’re all quite expensive.

“I never had any doubts about the player; he’s a special guy with an equally magical mind. He just needed to find a symbiosis of ideas, and he succeeded with Spalletti’s style of football, which truly makes him a protagonist.”

How will Spurs’ midfield look like under De Zerbi next season?

In his first few weeks at the club, De Zerbi has reiterated that he likes the quality Tottenham have in their squad.

When it comes to the midfield department, there are certainly some exciting young talents at the club that the Italian will love working with over the coming months and years.

A midfield trio of Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Pape Sarr, playing the kind of high-intensity, attacking football that De Zerbi wants, is a tantalising prospect for Spurs fans.
