‘Many different things’ – Ryan Mason on Tottenham’s dreadful away form

Ryan Mason has blasted Tottenham Hotspur’s away form after watching his side suffer yet another defeat on the road this afternoon.

Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa means the north Londoners are now winless in nine away games in all competitions, their last victory away from home came in a FA Cup win at Preston North End in January.

Once again Tottenham were slow to start and Villa capitalised when Leon Bailey eased past Ben Davies down the flank to cross for Jacob Ramsey to drill the ball beyond Fraser Forster.

With Villa playing a high defensive line, Richarlison and Heung-min Son both struggled to beat the offside trap with poor timings of their runs and Villa looked the more likely side to score a second.

A second-half free-kick by Douglas Luiz proved to be enough to kill off Tottenham, with Harry Kane only able to grab a consolation minutes before the final whistle from the penalty spot after he was felled in the area.

The defeat means that Tottenham are now level on points with Villa and are now seriously at risk of missing out on European football next season.

Mason told Football.London: “I think many different things contribute. Ultimately it’s not good enough for a club this size. It needs to improve. It needs to be a collective, driven by all of us. That needs to change.”

SpursWeb Opinion

How Tottenham can continue to drag their heels over a managerial appointment is unbelievable, as much as Ryan Mason is one of our own, he simply is not the answer.

With two games to go, we could be going into next season with only domestic football ahead of us and still have to pay extortionate season ticket prices.
