‘Many more years’ – Alessandro Bastoni directly addresses links with Spurs

Alessandro Bastoni has claimed he never had the slightest doubt over his future at Inter Milan despite the speculation linking him with Tottenham earlier in the summer.

It was previously reported that Bastoni was Antonio Conte’s top target for the left centre-back role this summer (Football.London).

It was under the Spurs boss that the 23-year-old first established himself as a mainstay at Inter but any chance of reuniting with Conte at Spurs was ended when the centre-back’s agent declared his client would not be leaving the San Siro this summer (Football Italia).

Tottenham have since signed Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona, and the Frenchman is expected to compete with Ben Davies for the left centre-back role during the upcoming campaign.

Bastoni has now insisted he was always convinced he would stay at Inter, and expressed his desire to win a lot more silverware with the Nerazzurri in the future.

When asked about the speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham, the Italy international told Gazzetta dello Sport: “I never had the slightest doubt about leaving Inter, here I have everything I need to feel good and express myself at my best.

“I feel great with my teammates, with the club, I adore Milan and so why go elsewhere? I am happy to be here, I see myself for many more years with this shirt and, in the meantime, I hope to win a lot more.”

Based on Bastoni’s words, it sounds like getting him next summer would prove just as difficult as it was this summer. Given the love that the 23-year-old seems to have for Inter, one would expect him to sign a new contract sooner rather than later. The only hope that Tottenham have of signing him in the future is if Inter decide they need the funds from his sale.
