Bundesliga player speaks on his future amid rumoured Tottenham interest

Marcel Sabitzer has refused to give a definitive update on his future when asked about whether he is likely to continue at RB Leipzig.

Sabitzer was heavily linked with a move to Spurs during the January transfer window but the deal failed to materialise.

Previous reports have indicated that the North London club are already laying the groundwork to pull of a potential deal for the Austrian in the summer.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has also backed the North Londoners to compete for the midfielder’s signature.

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig chief executive, Oliver Mintzlaff, has refused to rule out the prospect of selling Sabitzer during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old has just over 12 months left to run on his contract and Sky Sports Austria now claim that negotiations with Leipzig over a new deal have either halted or are making slow progress.

However, Sabitzer has chosen to remain coy on his contract situation when asked about his future.

Sky quote the rumoured Tottenham target as saying: “So much is said in football.

“What I say today will no longer count tomorrow. I am sticking to the fact that I have a contract until 2022.”

German outlet Kicker add that the midfielder was then asked by Sky whether he expects to still be with Leipzig next season and he responded: “I’ll leave it as I said.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Some sources previously claimed that it was Jose Mourinho who was the main driver of Tottenham’s interest in Sabitzer. So it remains to be seen whether the club would still be as enthusiastic in their pursuit of the Leipzig star with the Portuguese coach no longer at the helm. I also do not expect us to go in for the Austrian if Dele Alli ends up staying.
