Marcus Edwards sends message to Spurs and supporters after leaving the club

Marcus Edwards completed his move to Portuguese side Vitoria earlier today ahead of the European transfer closing.

Edwards spent last season on loan at Dutch side Excelsior Rotterdam, making 25 appearances in the Eredivisie where he scored two goals before returning to Tottenham this summer (transfermarkt).

It was three years ago when Tottenham Hotspur boss compared the midfielder to Lionel Messi, only to see his career stall in North London after making just one senior appearance (Daily Mail).

He went on loan to Norwich in the second half of the 2017-18 campaign but played just six minutes as a substitute before returning to Spurs for ‘personal reasons’ (Standard).

Edwards took to Instagram to thank those at Spurs who had helped him during his career at the club along with the supporters.

The 20-year-old will now look to kick start his career in Portugal and follow in the footsteps of other young English talent who have become a success abroad, most notably Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund.
