Mark Lawrenson on who will win between Tottenham and Leeds

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has shared his prediction for the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United.

Jose Mourinho’s side kick off the New Year by welcoming Leeds to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow afternoon where they are looking to return to winning ways following a disappointing December.

Tottenham enjoyed an 11-game unbeaten Premier League run between the second match of the season and the middle of December, but a run of four games without a victory has threatened to ruin any hope of challenging for the title.

Leeds come into the game full of confidence having secured back to back wins against Burnley and West Bromwich Albion which also included two clean sheets.

Lawrenson believes that Tottenham will return to winning ways after claiming that the way in which Marcelo Bielsa likes his side to operate will play into the hands of Mourinho.

He told BBC Sport: “This is such an intriguing match because of the difference in the way both teams play, and how both managers see the game.

“Every Premier League game is televised at the moment because of the restrictions on fans going to games but if they weren’t, this would be most people’s first pick of the one they want to watch.

“Leeds completely dismantled West Brom earlier this week, and their game plan will be “up and at ’em” here too.

That is exactly how Tottenham like opposing teams to be, though. I just feel it will play into Jose Mourinho’s hands a little bit, as his side look to get back to winning ways.

“It won’t be dull, though. It never is with Leeds – they have you on the edge of your seat, whichever end the ball is at.

“Lawro’s prediction: 2-0.”
