Mark Lawrenson predicts who will win between Spurs and West Ham

BBC football pundit Mark Lawrenson has shared his score prediction ahead of tonight’s London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

Last time out, Lawrenson correctly predicted that Spurs would draw 1-1 with Manchester United in what was the club’s first game back in Premier League action following the suspension of the top flight due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The former Liverpool defender believes that it will be Tottenham who will secure the bragging rights against the Hammers whilst also keeping a rare clean sheet.

Spurs are looking to complete a Premier League double over West Ham for the first time since the 2012-13 season under André Villas-Boas.

Lawrenson told BBC Sport: “You have to fancy Tottenham here. Their draw with Manchester United on Friday night was one of the few games over the weekend that had some of the usual intensity you see in the Premier League.

“I worry about West Ham after seeing them against Wolves. I don’t know where their goals are coming from – although it is tough to judge any team too much from that first set of games.

“There were quite a few teams who did not offer much going forward, and they should all be better from having 90 minutes in their legs.

“Lawro’s prediction: 2-0.”

Opinion

Anything less than three points for Tottenham will all but end our slim hopes of pushing for a top four finish. With Chelsea already nine points ahead of us in fourth place, Mourinho’s men must beat the Hammers and hope that Manchester City can win at Stamford Bridge on Thursday to reduce the deficit to six.
