Mark Lawrenson shares his Newcastle vs Spurs score prediction

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has shared his score prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Newcastle United tomorrow afternoon.

Tottenham head into the fixture certainly looking for a vast improvement compared to the previous international break which saw them suffer three successive Premier League defeats to Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal in very convincing fashion.

Newcastle are without a win in the top flight this season, but have experienced a morale boost after the recent takeover by the Saudi-backed consortium which saw supporters of the Toon Army celebrating outside St James’ Park when Mike Ashley’s fourteen-year association with the club came to and end (BBC).

Spurs will be hoping Harry Kane ends his run of six Premier League games without a goal, five of the 28-year-old’s six Premier League goals for Tottenham against Newcastle have come at St James’ Park. He’s only scored more away goals against Leicester (8) and Everton (7) in the competition than he has against the Magpies.

Lawrenson believes it will be a case of honours even on Tyneside, with both sides playing out a score draw.

He told the BBC: “I keep reading about who the next Newcastle manager is going to be, so I feel sorry for Magpies boss Steve Bruce, because no-one has come out and said what is happening to him.

“Whatever the decision is on his future, just tell him and make it public – don’t just leave him dangling. It’s not an ideal situation for him or his players.

“Tottenham found a bit of form against Aston Villa in their last game, but they are still far from convincing and I don’t think they will be able to spoil the party for the Newcastle fans in the stands.

“Lawro’s prediction: 1-1.”
